Welcome to Linda Vista Subdivision

Home Page

Welcome to the Linda Vista Subdivision, established in 1973 by Rodrick Peacock.  The town of Dublin was incorporated by an Act of the General Assemby of Georgia, approved December 9, 1812.  It was perphaps the smallest town ever created by the Legislature of the sovereigh state of Georgia.  Johathan Sawyer, a pioneer citizen of the county, was granted the privilege of naming the new county seat of Laurens and he called it Dublin in honor of the capital of his native land, Ireland.

A Brief History of LInda Vista

In 1929, Mr. Gus Jepeway sold a tract of land between US Highway 80 West and Springdale Road what is now exists as the Dublin Mall, Moss Creek Subdivision, and Linda Vista Subdivision to Mr. Roderick T. Peacock Sr. Originally, this property consisted of planted pines, hog pens along the creek, and a small lake utilized for swimming by the locals. Part of the concrete dam still exists and can still be seen while driving along Highway 80 adjacent to 2316 Peacock Drive.

Rod Peacock Jr. inherited the property from his father who passed away in early 1960.

Beginning in 1969, Mr. Rod T. Peacock Jr. began Phase One in developing a subdivision known as Linda Vista which means “pretty view”. Shamrock Drive was already in existence but was a dead end street with four homes already existing on the planted pine property, so this became a natural extension for a new subdivision of homes.

Rod Jr. served in the Army Air Corp, prior to the formation of the U.S. Air Force, during WW II in the CRI Theater, China, Burma and India. After an illustrious career in the military, he returned home to Dublin to embark on new opportunities.  Due to the impact of his military career, Rod Jr. decided to name the streets in his new subdivision after the people that influenced him the most while serving in the military.

Merrill is named after Brigadier General Frank D. Merrill.  Wingate was named after British Major General Orde Charles Wingate.  Chennault was named after Major General Claire Lee Chennault, who led the ‘Flying Tigers.’  Scott was named after General Robert L. Scott, who penned the book,”God is My co Pilot.”  A movie was also made about this book.  General Scott was very active in the Air Museum in Warner Robins prior to his death just a few years ago.  One Sunday, General Scott was the guest speaker at Pine Forest Methodist Church, that same Sunday, Rod and Mary Ann Peacock became members of the Church.  That same Sunday, Mr. Louie Livingston and Rod Peacock drove General Scott through our sub division to show him the streets that he had named after the Generals that he had served under during his military career.  Later, Mr. Livingston had another street sign made and presented it to General Scott in Warner Robins and now rests on his desk at the Air Museum.
